Brooks Koepka at LIV Golf Singapore event

Brooks Koepka’s interesting response to questions about his LIV Golf future and possible PGA Tour return

Brooks Koepka has never been one to reveal much, and his latest comments about his future in LIV Golf were no exception. The five-time major champion addressed speculation regarding a potential return to the PGA Tour but did little to confirm or deny the rumors outright.

“I’ve got nothing. Everybody else seems to know more than I do,” Koepka said during a press conference ahead of LIV Golf’s Singapore event. His response came after speculation surfaced from former Masters champion Fred Couples, who hinted that Koepka might be interested in rejoining the PGA Tour.

Speculation grows over Koepka’s future

The rumors began when Fred Couples, a long-time PGA Tour supporter and close confidant, suggested in a radio interview that Koepka could be considering a return to the traditional circuit. “He wants to come back,” Couples said on KJR 93.3 FM in Seattle, adding, “I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.”

While Koepka didn’t outright confirm this, he also didn’t dismiss the possibility. Since joining LIV Golf in 2022, Koepka has won five events and has remained one of the league’s top competitors. However, with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF) in ongoing negotiations regarding a possible merger, the possibility of players reintegrating into the PGA Tour remains a hot topic.

Koepka’s take: keeping his options open?

During his press conference, Koepka made it clear that his focus remains on playing at a high level rather than engaging in speculation about his future. “I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does,” he said. “Right now, I’m just focused on playing better. How do I perform better in the majors, and how does my team win? Then we’ll figure out next year and how to improve again. It’s just a revolving cycle.”

He also acknowledged that Fred Couples had reached out to him after the rumors gained traction. “Yeah, Fred texted me after, I guess, the comments came out. I don’t know when it was—sometime last week. Everybody seems to have their own opinion, and no one asks me. I talk to Fred quite a bit, but we don’t go too much into detail about what’s going on. Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms. I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we’ll see what happens.”

Comparisons to other LIV Golf stars

Koepka’s comments stand in contrast to fellow LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who recently dismissed any interest in returning to the PGA Tour. Speaking at LIV Golf Hong Kong, DeChambeau reinforced his commitment to the Saudi-backed circuit, stating, “I’m very excited about the future of LIV Golf. I’m very excited to be the captain of the Crushers and continue our legacy that we’re starting to create. That should tell you everything you need to know.”

Meanwhile, players like Jon Rahm, who joined LIV in late 2023, have remained diplomatic about their futures as the professional golf landscape continues to shift.

What’s next for Koepka?

For now, Koepka remains a key player in LIV Golf, but his recent comments suggest that he is leaving the door open for potential changes in the future. His contract details with LIV remain unclear, but if negotiations between the PGA Tour and PIF lead to reintegration opportunities, Koepka could be one of the first high-profile players to make a move back.

As the golf world continues to evolve, Koepka’s stance will be closely watched. Whether he remains with LIV Golf long-term or considers a return to the PGA Tour, one thing is certain—his competitive drive remains as strong as ever.
